Carpet Versus Other Flooring

When it comes to choosing flooring then you may opt as many people now do, for a modern laminate or wooden floor.
Many people opt for these as they have a lot of benefits. Firstly you can install one yourself in just a weekend or less with some help, you cannot really do this with carpet. Secondly they are stain and scratch resistant (Most even cope with Ash heelson them). Thirdly they are very easy to keep clean, which is why many people with busy work and social lives opt for them as you could get away with only cleaning them every two weeks with a Hoover and a mop.
Like carpet they feel warm underfoot which is nice in Winter, however they do not have any "Give" in them which means they are not very child friendly, indeed whilst they are easily cleaned with a wet mop, this can make them very slippy indeed until they are dry again.
Carpet has a lot going for it as an alternative to laminate flooring, for one thing it can be used on stairs where laminate flooring would be impractical.
It can now be bought in very hard wearing forms such as carpet tiles (However they are rarely used in houses as people associate them with offices, but they do work well in a hallway if you have a very high level of traffic).
Indeed you should always ensure that you buy the right grade of carpet for the area that you are putting it down in. It is very easy to find the ideal colour of carpet, but not realise for example that it is a bathroom carpet not a hall carpet.
A bathroom carpet is not designed for the rigors that it would be subjected to if put down in a hallway, indeed it would be showing bad signs of wear in just a few weeks. So always ensure that you ask the supplier what the carpet is designed for. Likewise you may want to consider putting down darker carpets in hallways or on stairs, as cream carpet may look nice, but can be murder to keep clean.
When buying a carpet always get it professionally installed as if you do it yourself and cut the carpet wrongly then it is very costly indeed. Also always ensure that you get your carpet scotch guarded as this will greatly help in keeping it clean and resistant to stains.
